BABY DJ SCHOOL?

1/2/2014

A woman in the US has started up a DJ school for babies. Read on and see if you think it's a good idea or not...

Picture
Time Out NY Kids has called it "The most innovative class of 2013."

Natalie Weiss is a Brooklyn based DJ and early childhood educator who runs Baby DJ School - Dj classes for children aged 3 months to 3 years.

She's taken the traditional baby sing along classes to a new level by offering an interactive music class that uses DJ equipment and beats to improve motor skills, spatial awareness and language skills. With songs  like "That's Why Daddy Loves Disco," and rocking beats, it sounds like she's on a real winner.

Her unique spin on baby classes has seen a huge amount of publicity including Good Morning America and The Wall Street Journal. And she hasn't stopped there. Natalie is expanding her services to offer summer camps, parties and even franchises of the rockin' school.

I think she's onto a great thing. As a DJ and music lover, I love the idea of encouraging kids to learn about music appreciation and improve motor skills through the use of decks. It's also a fun way to increase the parent/baby bond through a class that the parents can really get into. The only doubt I would have about the class is the use of the earphones in the baby's ears. If the head phones are just being used as a way for the child to get used to having something on their head (and not plugged into a music source), that's fine.; but there have been studies that reveal the detrimental effects of ear phones on the developing child's ears.

According to the American Osteopathic Association, 1 in 5 teens has some form of hearing loss. This is a 30% higher hearing loss rate than in the same age group in the 1980s and 1990s . Many experts believe is partly due to the increased use of headphones.  Dr Foy, and osteopathic paediatrician from California recommends never using an MP3 music device on more than 60 precent of the volume for more than 60 minutes a day.

So I say bring on the baby DJ classes. It's innovative, fun and educational. But be very careful of using earphones with babies and children. If you're not sure about it, check with your local GP.

Top 5 New Years Eve Songs - Djs Sunshine Coast Ryan Anderson

DJs Sunshine Coast Ryan Anderson's Top 5 New Years Eve Songs...

This is another tough one guys.
It's that one night of the year where everyone just wants to have fun, let their hair down and party! You have to include a few classics in the list, but as we all know, a party can't survive on old time classics. There needs to be some fast paced current music with a great dancing beat.
Me and my gorgeous wife will be ringing in the New Year in style in the Big Apple! So excited to be having a New York New Years experience.  With the weather currently at 6 degrees celsius in the balmy big apple, we received a nice surprise after leaving  a chilly minus 33 degrees celsius in Canada this morning!

SO without further ado, here are my top 5 NYE songs for 2013….
1. "It's Tricky" - Run DMC
2. "Timber" - Pitbull feat. Ke$ha
3. "Wake Me Up" - Avicii
4. "Don’t Stop Believin'” - Journey
5. "Auld Lang Syne" - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Honorable mentions from our FaceBook mates….
- "Happy New Year" - ABBA
- "Tipping Point"
- "New Years Day" - U2
- "Celebration" Kool & the Gang
- "1999" Prince

Where ever you are and and what ever you are doing this New Years Eve, have an amazing time. Stay safe and take some time to remember all the great people and wonderful things you've accomplished this year. Give yourself a pat on the back (and maybe a drink or two!)

Until Next Year…
Sunshine Coast DJs Ryan Anderson signing off.
Cheers!

5 Essesntial Christmas Tunes…Djs Sunshine Coast

DJs Sunshine Coast Ryan Anderson's top 5 Christmas tunes.

It's Christmas time. The bells are ringing. The music's playing.
You either love or hate Christmas music, but I gotta tell you…I love it!
Not too early in the year mind you - give it till the 1st December and then I'm ready to sing along with the best of 'em!

So I've been trying to put together a list of my all-time favourite Christmas tunes. It's a tricky thing to do - do you include old time carols or stick to the more funky tunes? Who do you love and who do you cross off straight away? Let's face it, there have been some annoying renditions over the years!

So without delay, here's my Top 5 Christmas Essential Tunes 2013. Let me know what you think. I'd love to hear yours.
  1. Jingle Bells by Michael Buble - the smooth voice combined with a classic song: you can't go wrong!
  2. Little Drummer Boy - this is an old-time carol that never loses it's appeal.
  3. Who Spiked the Eggnog - this one'll bring a smile to your dial (see clip below)
  4. Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer - for its' inherent witty charm!
  5. Holy Night - the slow one that gets us all a little teary - admit it.

Have a Merry Christmas Everyone. Stay safe and happy.

Love being a local!  Sunshine Coast DJ Ryan Anderson

This Sunshine Coast DJ loves being a coast local!

Coming from a small town in Canada, I just love the fact the Sunshine Coast has the same small town vibe. Locals all seem to look out for each other and there is a strong sense of community here. I can't complain about the weather either! Our winters in Canada get well below 0 degrees,  give or take -20 to -40 . The winters here are magnificent!  Song choice for a warm winter day on the coast would have to be: Jammin' by Bob Marley and the Wailers.
Getting back on track...I really admire the entrepreneurial spirit of so many locals up here. I thought I'd let you know a few locals who are doing a great job in their chosen field of expertise...
Try them and tell 'em DJ Ryan Anderson sent you!

Zumba DJ party

14/10/2013

Sunshine Coast DJ Ryan Anderson has teamed up with master Zumba Instructor Amy A. to offer Zumba Dance / DJ parties for secondary schools and businesses on the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane. It's a great way to incorporate fun and fitness into end of term parties, fund-raisers, team building etc.

Check out a couple of pics form the gig we did at a school in Brisbane on the weekend. My favourite feedback from the night was one of the students asking..."Can we do this again next week...pleeeease?!!!?"
